A charming and exceptionally rare pair of custom pillows featuring antique hand-embroidered appliqué. Each pillow is crafted from a sumptuous, deep aubergine cotton velvet - a rich, wine-purple that glows with depth. Adorning the front is a delightful antique appliqué depicting a grapevine - a winding vine with luminous chartreuse leaves and a cluster of plump dusty-rose grapes. The appliqué is entirely hand-embroidered with incredible artisanal detail, as seen in the close-ups: the leaves are worked in raised, feathery stitches with hand-stitched rust-colored veining, the vine is formed with hand-wrapped cord, and the grapes are made of individual three-dimensional French knots and bullion stitches that catch the light. This is true antique needlework, with the beautiful irregularity and texture that only handwork possesses. Each antique appliqué has been meticulously hand-appliquéd onto the velvet, finished with contrasting leaf-green velvet piping and backed in a vibrant chartreuse green velvet for a bold, designer reverse.
