A handsome matched pair of Scandinavian Modern Model 60 stools designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in 1933 and manufactured in Sweden by Finsven, circa 1945–1950. Each stool features a circular birch seat finished in a rich walnut-brown tone, supported by three sculptural bentwood legs. The legs employ Aalto’s celebrated “L-leg” construction, in which laminated sections of birch are steam-bent into a precise right angle and mounted directly beneath the seat. This innovative technique created a remarkably strong yet visually light structure without conventional framework or stretchers. The stools’ minimalist three-legged form allows them to be stacked when not in use. Versatile and highly functional, they may serve as occasional seating, side tables, bedside tables, plant stands, or sculptural display pedestals. The beautifully figured seats and mellow dark finish give this pair a warmer and more refined character than the commonly encountered natural-birch examples. Marked beneath with the circular Swedish production stamp. Designer: Alvar Aalto Model: Stool 60 Manufacturer: Finsven Country of manufacture: Sweden
