An exceptionally rare and sublimely feminine pair of vintage Murano art glass table lamps, attributed to Barovier & Toso, Seguso, Murano, circa 1960s. Each lamp is a jewel of Venetian glassmaking. The form is classically elegant: a ribbed, inverted pear-shaped amphora body resting on a wide, fluted, scalloped shell foot, with a flared gold-flecked collar and neck. The vertical ribbing, or costolato, gives the body a wonderful optic movement. The glass is breathtaking, as captured in your detailed macro photos: a delicate, opalescent baby pink / salmon cased glass, infused throughout with swirling ribbons of 24k gold leaf and gold dust, known as foglia oro. The gold is not on the surface - it is suspended within the thick walls of the glass. Your close-ups show the extraordinary detail: a dense, glittering gold spiral encased in each rib, catching the light like spun silk. The foot is a cloud of gold leaf encased in clear and pink, with a deeply scalloped, wavy edge that glows when lit. The base is mounted on a circular gilt brass platform with intricate pierced lattice and floral garland stamping - a couture detail that signals high-end Murano production for the American luxury market. Retaining French tole parchment shades in a high-gloss, lacquered ivory / cream. The shades are haute couture: trimmed at the bottom with a wide band of faux marbleized pink and silver leaf, and at the top with a hand-applied silver-leaf scrolling acanthus frieze - as seen in your macro. The silver and pink of the shades was custom-matched to the glass. When lit, the lamps glow from within, a soft, romantic, golden pink.
