A Mies van der Rohe Tugendhat armchair, produced by Alivar circa 1990, in polished steel and leather. The Tugendhat chair was originally designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the late 1930s and first produced by Knoll, which stopped production in 1948; the Italian 'right to produce' the design was subsequently held by several companies, most notably Alivar. This 1990 Alivar edition features the original signature Barcelona Patchwork found in the earliest designs — a distinctive detail Knoll reintroduced in 2024 when it brought the Tugendhat chair back into production in fabric or leather, offering the Barcelona Patchwork in leather only by special order. An authenticated piece of design history for a collector's seating arrangement or reading corner.
