Antique hand tinted albumen photo of a singing instructor teaching two geishas how to sing. Included on the back is a brief explanation about the history of geishas singing in Japan. Albumen prints like this one were taken in black and white with color being added later by hand dyeing specific sections of the photo. [The singing girls or geisha, receive their instruction from teachers belonging to families hereditarily intrusted with the handing down of their art. There is no musical notation for popular music.
