Painting mounted on a scroll titled 雌鶏 [Rooster and hen]. Painting features three chickens: a rooster, a hen, and a younger chicken. Painted by 渡辺 省亭 [Watanabe Shotei] (1852-1918). The scroll has some minimal bug damage. Watanabe studied under 菊池容斎 Kikuchi Yōsai (1788-1878), (also known as Kikuchi Takeyasu and Kawahara Ryōhei) and the established artist 柴田是真 Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891) when he was young, and traveled to Europe in 1878.
