Vintage 19x19 taiwanese cypress shihou- masa goban (go board). Shihou-masa is the most prized of the various kinds of masame (straight-grain) cuts, because it exhibits straight, masame -style grains on all six of its faces, rather than just the top and bottom. We believe this board to be made of taiwanese cypress, which was once a common alternative to the more valuable kaya wood, but has become increasingly rare since the end of WWII.
