Japanese Calligraphy Scroll "菜根譚" Saikontan is a collection of essays by Hong Zicheng 洪自誠 (Hong Yingming 洪応明, Huanchu Daoren 還初道人) and is one of the Chinese classics. Translation: Left: 作人要在一点素心 - "Sakujin youzai iten soshin" - Anyone who wants to be a good person must have best been lief. Right: 交友須帯三分侠気 - "Kouya sube karaku sanbu kyoki" - To maintain friendships, you have to have a heart to match the other person for about 30% Ink on paper 20th Century
