Bunbuku Chagama scroll (The fairytale of a magical tanuki kama. A classic Japanese legend about a magical, shape-shifting raccoon-dog who transforms into a tea kettle to reward a poor, kind man who rescued it from a trap) Signature: 静村 Seison Red seal(落款印): 静村 Seison *Probably 藤島 静村 Fujishima Seison (1863-1935) Born in Morioka in 1863, Fujishima Seison's real name was Keihachi 啓八. His father ran a manju (sweet bun) shop, branching off from the Takaya candy shop in Morioka’s Kokumachi district, which was a purveyor to the Nanbu clan 南部藩. At the age of 10, he became a disciple of Kawaguchi Gekson 川口 月村(1845-1904). While inheriting the Shijo-Maruyama school of painting in Morioka, which continued through Gekko and Gekson, he sought to develop his own unique style.
