A truly impressive and monumental French bibliothèque (library cabinet or bookcase) from the mid-19th century, exquisitely crafted in carved wood with faux marble paint and gilded ornamentation. The architectural form features three fluted columns dividing four shelving sections on each side, with beautifully curved lines and richly detailed carvings. The upper frieze is adorned with carved cherubs, surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves, garlands, and ribbons — all highlighted in gilt. The columns and frame are hand-painted in faux marble finish, skillfully executed in tones of ochre, rose, and gray to simulate veined stone. Resting on a shaped plinth base with further gilt and carved motifs, this library cabinet is both structurally imposing and artistically refined — a superb example of French craftsmanship blending classical inspiration with 19th-century opulence. Origin: France Date: Mid-19th Century
