Elegant and decorative pair of English chinoiserie nightstands / small commodes, crafted in the 20th century and richly adorned with painted Oriental scenes against a deep lacquered ground. Each serpentine-front cabinet features two graduated drawers decorated with figures, architecture, and landscape motifs in the traditional chinoiserie style. The shaped tops display beautifully painted floral and bird scenes framed by delicate scrolling borders, while bronze mounts accent the corners, drawer pulls, side appliqués, and sabot feet.
