A monumental 18th Century French bronze Bacchic sculptural group signed Clodion. The sculpture depicts an elegant Bacchante figure holding a vessel, surrounded by lively mythological figures including playful putti and a satyr with hoofed legs, a subject closely associated with Clodion’s celebrated compositions inspired by classical mythology and the cult of Bacchus. The dynamic arrangement captures the exuberant spirit characteristic of Clodion’s work. The central female figure is modeled with graceful movement and naturalistic anatomy, while the surrounding putti and satyr add an animated sense of festivity and motion. Flowing drapery and foliage elements integrate the figures into a richly textured naturalistic base.
