An impressive and richly carved English Neoclassical giltwood console table, the rectangular marble top resting above a deeply carved frieze centered by a satyr mask surrounded by floral swags and guilloche molding. The table is raised on four incurving cabriole legs adorned with ram’s heads, united by an ornamental stretcher featuring a central merman figure. The entire composition is highlighted with water gilding over finely detailed carving, demonstrating superb craftsmanship and monumental scale. Provenance: Formerly with R. A. Lee, London, and illustrated in an undated catalogue, circa 1970s. Collection of John H. Bookwalter. Exhibited: The Indianapolis Museum of Art. Christie’s, New York, 14 October 2019, Lot 253.
