An extraordinary 19th century Italian Rococo giltwood mirror richly carved with exuberant detail and figural ornamentation. The crest is surmounted by a reclining putto reading from an open book, framed by scrolling acanthus leaves and rocaille motifs. Along the side, a second putto is depicted blowing a horn, adding movement and charm to the composition. The gilt frame is made in the Rococo manner, with asymmetrical flourishes, shellwork, and foliate scrolls surrounding the original shaped mirror plate.
