Named for the Italian phonetic spelling of "chewing gum," the 'Ciuingam' lounge chair channels the playful wit of Italy's Radical Design movement. It was designed in 1967 by the trio Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi — celebrated for their pop-inflected reinvention of postwar Italian seating — for manufacturer BBB Bonacina. This example survives in its rare original white leather, its bold, bulbous silhouette as much sculpture as seating — a defining touchstone of Italy's 1960s pop design era.
