About

Tall, carved, and impossible to ignore, this early 1900s Marquesas Islands tiki totem brings the kind of presence decorators and collectors look for: scale, surface, age, and a point of view that cannot be reproduced by new manufacture. Hand-carved from solid wood, the piece carries bold facial features, deeply cut geometric patterning, and a long vertical form that gives it architectural strength. The surface is weathered and beautifully worn, with natural cracks, darkened grain, old tool marks, rubbed high points, and the kind of patina that only comes from time. Mounted on a black display base, it reads as both artifact and sculpture — strong enough for a gallery setting, warm enough for a collected home. It can anchor an entry, stand beside a fireplace, bring depth to a modern interior, or add a powerful vertical element to a beach house, ranch house, design studio, hotel lobby, or layered collector’s room. The visual language points to the Marquesan carving tradition, where human forms, ancestral references, and geometric motifs carry cultural and symbolic weight. We are presenting this as a decorative and collectible carved wood piece with notable age, presence, and craftsmanship. Found + chosen by Surfing Cowboys for its strength, surface, scale, and ability to transform a space. Decorator’s Note This is a room-maker. The height, carved relief, warm aged wood, and black plinth give it strong contrast against white walls, plaster, stone, concrete, linen, leather, woven textiles, and modern coastal interiors. It has enough force to stand alone, but enough texture to work beautifully within a layered collection.
