About

Exceptional vintage Moroccan Beni M'Guild Berber rug, handwoven in Morocco circa 1960, distinguished by an unusually beautiful olive-green field animated with saturated orange, coral, rust, ivory, deep blue and earthy brown geometric motifs. Measuring approximately 5 feet 1 inch wide by 8 feet 8 inches long, this one-of-a-kind tribal carpet has an especially versatile scale for a living room, bedroom, library, entry, home office or layered designer interior. The composition is particularly striking. Three large geometric medallions are arranged vertically across the green ground, creating a strong architectural rhythm while retaining the spontaneous character associated with traditional Moroccan weaving. The upper and lower medallions incorporate coral-red, orange, ivory and dark accents, while the central diamond introduces a vivid burnt-orange field surrounding a smaller blue-centered motif. Multiple patterned borders frame the composition in warm reds, ochres, creams and dark blue tones. The olive-green background is one of the rug's most compelling features. Less commonly encountered than the cream, brown and red palettes often associated with vintage Moroccan carpets, the green gives this piece a sophisticated decorative presence and makes the warmer orange and coral elements appear especially vibrant. The combination feels simultaneously tribal, modernist and remarkably contemporary. Handwoven in wool by Berber women using traditional techniques passed through generations, the rug retains the individual irregularities that distinguish an authentic handmade textile from machine-produced carpeting. Subtle variations in weave, coloration, edges and fringe are part of its character and history and should not be interpreted as manufacturing imperfections. The graphic medallions and restrained open field give the rug enough visual strength to anchor a room without overwhelming surrounding furnishings. It would work particularly well with contemporary interiors, Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial architecture, Mid-Century Modern furniture, organic modern rooms, collected bohemian interiors or sophisticated spaces combining antique and modern design. Vintage Moroccan rugs have long appealed to designers and collectors because of the relationship between traditional tribal craftsmanship and unexpectedly modern abstraction. In this example, the large-scale diamonds, asymmetrical
