About

Monumental vintage Moroccan pierced-brass chandelier, handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980s. This oversized Moorish chandelier has an extraordinary elongated silhouette inspired by the decorative traditions of the Alhambra, Andalusian architecture, Islamic metalwork and traditional Moroccan riad lighting. The architectural light fixture is constructed from individually shaped brass panels, meticulously hand-pierced, hand-cut and hand-chased with intricate arabesque and filigree-style motifs. A crown-shaped upper gallery, dramatic scalloped border and elongated lower finial give this Moroccan chandelier a commanding sculptural presence. The brass retains a warm, naturally aged bronze-toned patina that accentuates the depth of the handcrafted openwork. When illuminated, the pierced brass projects elaborate patterns of light and shadow across the surrounding walls and ceiling, creating the atmospheric effect associated with Moroccan palaces and luxury riad interiors. Its monumental proportions make it an exceptional statement chandelier for a double-height foyer, grand staircase, large dining room, hotel lobby or other important architectural interior. The pierced-brass body measures 72 inches high and 33 inches in diameter. Its overall height is 88 inches, including the three short suspension chains and ceiling canopy. Handcrafted by skilled Moroccan artisans in Marrakech. Its sculptural scale and richly layered Moorish aesthetic recall the interiors associated with Alberto Pinto; this chandelier is offered in that stylistic spirit and is not attributed to the designer.
