An exceptionally decorative pair of vintage Moroccan hanging lanterns, handcrafted in pierced metal and accented with jewel-toned blue and amber glass. Made in Morocco, North Africa, during the late 20th century, these sculptural Moorish light fixtures combine traditional metalworking techniques with a dramatic, almost architectural silhouette. Each lantern features an elongated teardrop body that opens into a distinctive flame-like crown. The irregular upper edges curve upward like stylized leaves or petals, giving the fixtures an expressive organic quality when viewed from below. Thousands of individually pierced openings cover the metal surfaces, creating a remarkably intricate texture while allowing light to escape through a constellation of small glowing points. Four inset colored-glass panels embellish each lantern: two deep cobalt-blue glass panels and two warm amber glass panels. The glass accents are framed in raised almond-shaped surrounds and provide rich touches of color against the dark metal. When illuminated, the pierced metalwork and colored glass create a warm, atmospheric effect, casting delicate points of light and subtle jewel-toned reflections into the surrounding space. The metal retains a beautifully aged dark bronze and russet-brown patina with natural variations in tone, oxidation and surface character. This time-softened finish complements the handmade construction and reinforces the authentic Moroccan character of the pair. Decorative beaded bands encircle the lower sections, while perforated domed terminals and small finials complete the sculptural design. Generously scaled at approximately 28 inches high by 20 inches in diameter each, these are substantial statement lanterns. Their proportions make them particularly effective installed as a pair above a long dining table, kitchen island or library table, or suspended sequentially in a tall entry hall, covered loggia or Mediterranean-style corridor. They would be equally striking in a Spanish Revival residence, Moroccan riad, Santa Barbara hacienda, Palm Beach interior or sophisticated contemporary home seeking an element of North African design. Each lantern has been rewired and is fitted with one hardwired interior light. The pair is ready for professional installation; installation by a qualified electrician is recommended. The lanterns are intended for indoor use or installation in a protected covered area only. Sold as a set of two. The dark bronze-colored finish displays expected patination and surface variation consistent with vintage handcrafted metalwork. These large Moroccan Moorish pierced-metal lanterns offer functional illumination, dramatic sculptural presence and the atmospheric beauty associated with traditional Islamic and North African lighting.
