of fully realized realistic form, with serene expression, downward cast slightly closed eyes, elongated eyelids underneath arched eyebrows, a slender pointed nose, large pendulous ears and a mouth with cupid bow lips, the hair carved in neatly arranged rows of tightly rolled curls; the whole in uniform grey coloured stone with encrustations of hard earth and now raised on tapered square section stone plinth 19th Century - possibly earlier - both the type of carving and the general style of this headis very close to sculptures from Qingzhou, in Shandong province, exhibited at the Rietberg Museum in Zurich and the Royal Academy in London Overall
