1960's Gae Aulenti Locus Solus Chairs reimagined by Michael Sailstorfer for Original in Berlin's The Select Project. Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) was born in Italy 1920's. She became one of the most prominent architects and designers in post war Italy. Her transformative work include the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. She created the Locus Solus Chair in 1964 for Poltronova. "Locus Solus" is a Latin phrase that translates to "solitary place" or "unique place." Gae Aulenti named her Locus Solus chairs after Raymond Roussel's novel Locus Solus (1914) because the phrase- and the novel itself- captured a spirit of eccentricity, invention, and the surreal, which aligned with her own design philosophy.
